Pune: In a horrifying incident, a 60-year-old man was arrested by Bibwewadi police for attempting to murder a local shopkeeper over a year-old altercation. The accused, identified as Satish Murlidhar Dhole, a resident of Vaishnavi Devi Heights, Sukhsagar Nagar, Kondhwa, was detained following a complaint filed by Kartikesh Dashrath Rane, the victim.

According to police reports, Rane operates a shop selling puja materials near the Shani temple in Lower Indiranagar. The dispute between the two men originated last Diwali, when Rane and Dhole had a minor argument over the purchase of puja items. Despite the argument being seemingly trivial, Dhole harboured a grudge against Rane and had been provoking him since.

On Saturday, while Rane was attending to customers in his shop, Dhole approached him from behind and forcefully covered his face with his hand. Dhole then attempted to stab Rane on the right side of his neck with a knife, intending to kill him. Rane managed to deflect the attack, but in the process, he sustained an injury to his left thumb.

Dhole was apprehended at the scene and subsequently arrested. The police have registered a case against him, and further investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Yewale.
