Pune: Accused in Swargate bus stand rape case knows how to defend himself, tells police that he is transgender

Pune: A 26-year-old woman was raped in a parked Shivshahi bus at the Swargate bus stand on Tuesday. People across the State expressed outrage over the incident. The accused, Dattatraya Gade, was arrested three days later at his native in Shirur taluka. It was learnt that the police got concrete evidence against Gade.

However, Gade appears to know well how to defend himself. Earlier, he told the police that he was a transgender to save his skin. There were rumours immediately after his arrest that he was a homosexual and would earn money through it.

Gade’s potency test was also conducted on Friday and it was positive, said sources.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has directed the investigation team to thoroughly probe the case. Police officers and personnel attached with the Swargate Police Station, including API Ravindra Kaspate, Nilesh Mokashi, Shankar Sampatte, Sagar Kekan, Nana Bhandurge, Sujay Pawar, Kundan Shinde, Vikram Sawant and Rahul Tambe, nabbed the accused from Gunat village.

These police officials used laser beams to communicate with each other at night at Gunat village. The accused was produced before the court on Friday. He was remanded in police custody till March 12.

On Saturday, the police recorded Gade’s statement and sent his blood, hair samples for a DNA test to the forensic laboratory. This was revealed by senior police officials.
