Pune: Action against Thekka Hotel in Hinjawadi for illegal hookah sale

Pune / Pimpri: The police have been taking action against illegal bars and pubs after the hit-and-run case in Kalyani Nagar. The police are acting against such establishments for working beyond legal working hours and indulging in illegal activities. Action was taken against Thekka Restro & Lounge Hinjawadi on Sunday (July 7) night for illegal hookah sale.

Manager Arvindsingh Chamelsingh (27), a resident of Hinjawadi, and owner Vaibhav Pralhad Warde (35), a resident of Akurdi, have been booked under section 223, 287, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003.

According to the police, a team of the Hinjawadi Police got a tip-off that illegal hookah sale was underway in Thekka hotel at Kasturi Chowk in Hinjawadi. The hotel was raided. It was found that there were no separate sections for hookah and customers were eating and smoking at the same place. Some customers were consuming hookah. Hookah pots and flavours worth Rs 24,198 were confiscated in the action. The police are investigating further.
