Pune: Airfares get cheaper for Maha Kumbh, rates cut by 50 pc

Pune: Devotees are visiting Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh Mela. Many Puneites prefer to go by air to the pilgrim centre. However, fares were hiked by airlines and many had to suspend their plans to attend the religious congregation.

“The airlines have been instructed in a meeting with officials to curtail fares. Thus, they reduced fares by 50 pc,” said Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.

He said, “We held a meeting with airlines on Thursday. They told us that fares go up in proportion to demand. But we discussed the issue and told them that they should consider the special occasion. We asked them to reduce rates of air tickets. They agreed with us and reduced fares. Now, fares to Prayagraj have been halved.”
