Pune: Assigned Duty Ignored, Fined at Another Junction; 3 Traffic Cops Suspended, Woman Officer Among Them

Pune : In a serious breach of duty, three traffic police personnel, including a woman constable, have been suspended for abandoning their assigned posts and focusing solely on collecting fines at a different location. The Pune Traffic Department took swift action after it was revealed that the officers were neglecting traffic regulation duties and instead stopping vehicles to impose penalties in an unauthorized area.
The suspended officers have been identified as Santosh Chandrakant Yadav, Balaji Vitthal Pawar, and woman constable Monica Praveen Karanjkar. Yadav was assigned to SP Chowk, Pawar to Hirabaug Chowk, and Karanjkar to Bhave Chowk. However, instead of remaining at their designated posts, the trio were found operating at Puram Chowk, where they were stopping vehicles and collecting fines.
Once the matter came to light, the department acted without delay and suspended all three officers. In a city like Pune, where traffic congestion is a daily concern, such actions prioritizing fine collection over traffic management are being taken very seriously. This incident has raised questions about the conduct and priorities of the police force and sparked public dissatisfaction.
