Gang Rape In Bopdev Ghat

Pune:
The second accused in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case, who was arrested by Pune police from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, has been presented to the court yesterday. At that time, the court remanded him in police custody till October 22.

The arrested individual has been identified by police as Shoaib Alias Akhtar Babu Shaikh (age 27, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, near Mantarwadi, Hadapsar). In this case, police earlier arrested Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia (age 20, a resident of Dindori, Madhya Pradesh) last Friday. Kanojia has currently been granted judicial custody.

On October 3, a girl who went with her male friend in the Bopdev Ghat was allegedly gang-raped by three people. Following the incident, around 60 police teams of the Pune City Police Force were searching for the accused everywhere. Accordingly, police have arrested two accused so far, whereas the third accused, identified as Bapya alias Somnath Yadav, is still at large.

Shoaib Alias Akhtar Babu Shaikh was produced in court this morning. He was arrested by police from Prayagraj on October 14 at 12:30 p.m. While demanding his police custody, the police argued that Akhtar is the main mastermind of the accused, and what he and his accomplices have done is a despicable act and a disgrace to humanity.

The police further said that the vehicle used by the accused to abscond from the scene is yet to be seized. Further, police also want to recover the gold chain and ring stolen by the accused from the girl. Police said that to investigate where the accused was hiding after the incident and to collect their blood, nails, hair, and sputum samples for DNA investigation, police custody of the accused is necessary.

Further, police also argued that they wanted to investigate how the accused committed the crime along with other accused and to investigate if there are any other accomplices involved in this crime. For this, the police demanded seven days of police custody for the accused. After listening to their arguments, the court granted police custody to the accused until October 22.
