Pune: In a shocking incident at Handewadi Chowk, a car driver assaulted a traffic police officer while attempting to regulate traffic, leading to his arrest. The Hadapsar police have detained the car driver, identified as Maruti Rajaram Mane (22) of Gopalpatti, Manjri, and registered a case against two others involved in the altercation.

Traffic constable Ajinkya Chandrakant Nangude (34) lodged the complaint following the incident, which occurred on Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m. The police have also booked a two-wheeler rider, Sonu Patkar (24) of Undri, and another unidentified car driver in connection with the case.

According to the police report, constable Nangude was managing traffic at the busy Handewadi Chowk when Mane suddenly drove his car into a congested area, exacerbating the traffic jam. Nangude signalled for Mane to stop, but instead of complying, the driver allegedly began hurling abuses at the plaintiff.

The situation escalated when Nangude attempted to retrieve the car keys to immobilise the vehicle. Mane reportedly struck the constable on the hand with an iron object and kicked him in the stomach. During the altercation, Mane, along with Patkar and another individual, continued to verbally abuse the plaintiff.

The attack appears to have been motivated by anger over earlier enforcement actions taken by Nangude, who had issued fines to Mane and Patkar for traffic violations involving their vehicles, including a Maruti Ertiga.

Following the incident, the Hadapsar police swiftly arrested Mane and have launched an investigation under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Pawar.
