Pune: Chaturshringi Temple to Close for Renovation from August 16 to September 16; Trust Seeks Public Cooperation
Pune: The Chaturshringi Temple Trust has announced a temporary closure of the temple for one month through a press release. As per the press release issued by a trust, the temple will remain closed from August 16 until September 16 for the renovation of the temple. Meanwhile, the trust has appealed for cooperation from the people during these days.
Currently, Shravan month is going on according to the Marathi Hindu calendar. This month is considered to be very auspicious and has great importance in Maharashtrian culture. Therefore, during this month, a large number of devotees come to the Chaturshringi temple to take blessings from the goddess. However, this year, the temple will be closed for one month during Shravan.
However, the trust has made an alternative arrangement for devotees to have darshan of the goddess during Shravan. The trust has informed that the ‘Utsav Murthi’ (festival idol) of the goddess will be placed at the Ganapati temple at the foothills for devotees.
During the Navratri festival, a large number of Abhisheks, Rudrabhishek, and Mahapuja are performed in the temple. Similarly, Maha Aarti is performed every day at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. During Navratri, the temple is open 24 hours a day for devotees to visit. The police system, private security guards, and armed security guards are arranged in the temple.
The history of a temple:
“In the 18th century AD, Peshwas was ruling Pune. At that time, there was a moneylender named Durlabhsheth Mahajan in Pune. Durlabhsheth was a great devotee of Vani’s Saptshringi Devi. Due to his passing age, it was impossible for him to go to Vani, and therefore he became very sad. At that time, Devi appeared to him in a dream and gave him a vision. In the vision, Devi told him that she was in the northwest part of Pune city. Excavated at the said place, a ‘Swayambhu’ idol of the goddess appeared at that place. After that, eyes were placed on this idol by coating it with Shendura. Since then, the Navratri festival has started taking place in the temple, and today lakhs of devotees are coming to take the blessings of the goddess during the Navratri festival,” said Hemant Anagal, trustee of the Chaturshringi temple.
