Pune: Cold wave sweeps Maharashtra, mercury dips below 10 degrees Celsius in many cities

Pune: A cold wave has hit the State as chilly winds blowing from the North intensified on Sunday (December 15). More districts are likely to be affected by cold weather conditions on Monday too, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The lowest minimum temperature in the State was recorded in Ahilya Nagar at 6.4 degrees Celsius. A minimum temperature of 8 degrees Celsius was reported at NDA and 9 degrees Celsius in Shivajinagar in Pune on Sunday (December 15).

Many cities, including Pune, in the district recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature in the city was recorded at NDA (8 deg C) on Sunday. The mercury started dipping from Saturday. Therefore, Sunday morning was quite chilly in the city.

The cold wave conditions are likely to prevail for two more days. Later, the sky would be clear and foggy weather may prevail, said the IMD. Maximum temperature in the city dropped below 30 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures recorded at some places in and around the city: Pashan – 27 deg C, Bhor – 28.5 deg C, Shivajinagar – 29.6 deg C.

Many cities in the State reported minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. Ahilya Nagar reported the lowest minimum temperature of 6.4 deg C in the State. Minimum temperatures in the range of 7 to 8 deg C were recorded in Jalgaon, Chh. Sambhaji Nagar, Parbhani, Akola, Gondia, Nagpur and Wardha.

On Monday, a cold wave is likely to sweep districts such as Pune, Jalgaon, Chh. Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed and Gondia, said the met office.

Minimum temperatures at various places in the State (in degrees Celsius): Ahilya Nagar – 6.4, Pune – 9, Jalgaon – 7.9, Mahabaleshwar – 12.5, Nashik – 10.6, Satara – 12.1, Solapur – 14, Mumbai – 22.4, Chh. Sambhaji Nagar – 8.8, Parbhani – 8.6, Akola – 9.6, Gondia – 7.2, Wardha – 7.4.
