Pune: Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar orders interrogation of hardened criminals involved in previous rape, molestation cases

Pune: Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has ordered interrogation of hardened criminals involved in previous rape and molestation cases across the city. The directive came in the background of the Swargate bus stand rape case.
CP Amitesh Kumar addressed a press conference on Friday morning and gave details about the arrest of the accused Dattatraya Ramdas Gade (35), resident of Gunat in Shirur taluka, on Thursday night. Kumar spoke about Gade’s criminal background.
Kumar said that the police identified the culprit within a couple of hours after the incident when filing of the FIR was underway. He was arrested for stealing a mobile phone of a passenger in the Swargate area in 2024. He was also booked in robbery cases in Pune Rural and Ahilyanagar Rural areas in 2019.
Kumar said that directive were issued to all police stations to regularly check on accused involved in offences against women. History-sheeters involved in rape and molestations should be summoned to respective police stations and should be interrogated.
