Pune: Comprehensive Mobility Plan: 276 km Metro railway routes, six new BRTS routes
Pune: A Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the district for the next 30 years was presented in the District Planning Committee meeting to improve public transport systems on Thursday (January 30).
It covers an area of 20,550 sq m and has plans for 276 km Metro railway routes and six new BRTS routes’ network within the PMRDA limits in the next 30 years.
The CMP will be implemented in three phases, which will cost an estimated Rs 1,26,489 crore. Various government bodies will work on this plan. Two new proposals of Metro routes from Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi have been sent to the Central government.
Moreover, 148-km long Metro routes such as the District Court to Shewalewadi, University Chowk to Dehu Road, Kharadi to Khadakwasla, Nigdi to Chakan, Hadapsar to Saswad Road and Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor have been proposed. Additionally, 128-km Metro routes such as District Court to Alandi, Wakad Chowk to Shewalewadi, HCTMR to PCMC and HCTMR to PMC have been included in the CMP. Thus, a total of 276 km Metro routes have been proposed.
Currently, PMPML caters to only 10 pc commuters. The CMP proposes to increase it to 60 pc, for which the public transport body needs 6,000 buses, including 1,625 e-buses. The number of buses will go up to 11,564 till 2054. New 18 bus routes of 641 km have been planned. In all, 10 terminals will be built.
Six new BRTS routes of 117 km length have been proposed within the PMRDA jurisdiction. They include Ravet to Rajgurunagar, Gawali Matha Chowk to Shewalewadi, Ravet to Talegaon Dabhade and Chandani Chowk to Hinjawadi. Additionally, 46-km long BRTS routes from Loni Kalbhor to Kedgaon and Bhumkar Chowk to Chinchwad Chowk have also been included in the CMP.
