Pune:
A shocking incident has come to light from Pune’s Yerawada area, where a prisoner serving a life sentence in a murder case escaped from the Yerawada open jail. He had been in prison for the past seven years in a murder case.
The escaped prisoner has been identified as Anil Meghdas Pateniya (age 35, a resident of Mharalgaon, Radhakrishna Nagari, Titwala, Kalyan, District Thane). In this regard, Senior Jail Officer Rajendra Vasant Marale has filed a complaint at the Yerawada Police Station.
Anil Pateniya was arrested on June 2, 2016, in a murder case. After hearing his case, a court sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 a year ago on December 12, 2023. He was initially kept in Nashik Central Jail to serve his sentence. However, on June 15, this year, Pateniya was shifted from Nashik to Yerawada Jail.
After seeing his behaviour in the jail, the jail administration decided to shift him to an open jail. However, when the prisoners were counted at 12 noon on Wednesday, it was found that Anil Pateniya had escaped from the jail. After that, a complaint has been filed at Yerawada Police Station about Pateniya’s escape. Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Takle is investigating further in this case.
