Pune: Country-made pistol, 2 live cartridges seized from externed goon’s possession in Wadarwadi

Pune: A hardened criminal from Wadarwadi was externed. However, he still entered the city and was eventually arrested by the Chatuhshrungi Police. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Chandrakant Vitkar (23), resident of Old Wadarwadi. Policeman Babasaheb Pandurang Dangde lodged a complaint at the Chatuhshrungi Police Station.
Ajay Vitkar is a gang leader. Serious offences such as attempt to murder, fights, issuing death threats, illegal possession of arms, damaging vehicles have been registered against him. Action was taken against Vitkar and his gang in 2022 under the MCOCA for terrorising people to prove the dominance of their gang in the area.
He was freed after serving a jail term last year. He still continued to commit offences. Therefore, DCP Himmat Jadhav externed Vitkar from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune district in November 2024.
A team of Chatuhshrungi Police was patrolling in Vadarwadi when they got a tip-off that Vitkar was in the area. The police laid a trap and nabbed him from Pathan Galli. They frisked him and recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. He was arrested under the Arms Act.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of DCP Himmat Jadhav and Sr PI Vijayanand Patil. API Narendra Patil was investigating the matter.
