The brutal assault on an IT engineer in Kothrud is not a normal incident, but the police are investigating this case from the lens of organised criminal acts. So far, 27 names of the criminals from Gaja Marne Gang have come ahead in this case. The police will take an MCOCA action against all the accused in this case. The Pune Police Commissioner, Amitesh Kumar, has given this information.

He was speaking at a talk program organised by the Pune Union of Working Journalists. At this time, Kumar also said that Pune Police would soon destroy the Gaja Marne Gang. At this time, President of the union Sunit Bhave and General Secretary Minakshi Gurav were present at the program.

Recently, an IT employee named Devendra Jog was severely beaten by four members of the Gaja Marne gang at Bhelke Nagar Chowk in Kothrud over the minor bike incident. In this regard, police arrested three accused, including Om Dharma Jigyasu, Kiran Padwal, and Amol Tapkir, whereas the nephew of Gaja Marne, Babya, alias Shrikant Sambhaji Pawar, is currently absconding.

While speaking on the incident, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that the police do not look at this case only as a minor fight but treating it as an act of organised criminal activity. Accordingly, the police are working on destroying the entire gang.

Kumar said, “If anyone is coming to the mainstream, leaving the criminal background behind, then there is no reason for the police to be enemies with them. But if anyone is disturbing law and order in society and is playing with the law, then it will not go unnoticed. The police will not tolerate the pressure of anyone in this regard.”

He informed that the police have examined the call details record (CDR) for the past three days of the accused who went to see the movie before the incident in Kothrud. Six people from the gang, including Gaja Marne, have been absconding, and police have conducted raids in 74 places in Pune and Mulshi in the last three days to arrest them. They are being prosecuted under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act.

Meanwhile, the police are collecting the information about the property in the name of these gang members. For this, information is being sought from the Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps and the Municipal Corporation. Based on the information, the action will be taken out on these accused.

Amitesh Kumar informed that the committee has been appointed under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingle in this case. He appealed that if the gang had disturbed anyone earlier, or if anyone had any information about the gang, they should contact the police regarding the same. The police will keep utmost secrecy in this regard.
