Pune: Dealer must provide two helmets with two-wheeler: RTO

Pune: It is mandatory for a dealer to provide two helmets while selling a two-wheeler to a customer. The dealer has to follow this rule meticulously, failing which action will be taken against the dealer. Moreover, no extra money should be charged for the two helmets. This order has been issued by the State Transport Department.

The number of road accidents is growing with every passing day. In most accidents, two-wheelers are involved. Many two-wheeler riders die after a head injury. Therefore, a provision has been made in the Motor Vehicles Act to provide two helmets with a two-wheeler. A provision has also been made to act against a dealer if helmets are not provided with a two-wheeler. In the backdrop of the growing number of two-wheeler accidents, the court has also issued directions in this regard.

The number of fatal accidents, in which two-wheeler riders die due to head injuries, is increasing. The court expressed concern over the matter and directed to make the helmet rule mandatory. Therefore, the State Transport Department earlier instructed two-wheeler manufacturers and their dealers in this connection. It has also written to all RTOs in the State about this.

However, the rule was not implemented. Now, the RTO, Pune has written a letter to all two-wheeler dealers in this connection. They will have to give two helmets to a two-wheeler buyer. Non-compliance will invite action.

Penalty: Trade Certificate cancellation

It is mandatory for a dealer to provide two helmets to a two-wheeler buyer. No extra money is to be charged for the same. If a dealer fails to follow the rule, their trade certificate will be cancelled, said the RTO.
