Pune:

The demolition of the remaining portion of the Sadhu Vaswani flyover on the railway line near Pune station will begin on Monday. The Railways has given in-principle approval to provide a block for this work and has sent a letter regarding it to the Pune Municipal Corporation.

There is a Sadhu Vaswani railway flyover in the Koregaon Park area. It has been more than 50 years since this bridge was built. Therefore, as this bridge has become dangerous for traffic, the Municipal Corporation has decided to demolish this bridge and build a new railway flyover there. The cost of this bridge will be about Rs 83 crore.

The municipal corporation has already started the demolition of this bridge, and this bridge will be built on the railway line. Therefore, the municipal corporation had prepared its plan and sent it to the Railway Department. But there are pillars in the middle under the existing railway flyover. Therefore, the Railway Department stated that such pillars should not be constructed while building a new bridge.

For this, they also advised the construction of this bridge using the ‘bowstring girder’ method. However, the change has been made in this plan, and finally it was decided to build the bridge using the ‘open web girder’ method. The length of this bridge is 54 meters, and it is being built as per the instructions of the Railway Administration.

While speaking on this, the Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Prithviraj B.P., and Chief Engineer of the Project Department, Yuvraj Deshmukh, informed that the demolition of the remaining part of the bridge will start on Monday, and the railways have announced a 30-day block schedule for this work.

They also informed that the citizens of the slums near this flyover will be shifted to Hadapsar. Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Prithviraj B.P., said, “Around 60 slum dwellers near the railway flyover will be rehabilitated in Hadapsar. The remaining 40 to 50 slum dwellers will be given a week to move out. If they oppose, forced rehabilitation will be considered.”
