Pune: Good rainfall has been reported from across the State. Heavy rains were predicted on Wednesday. Water storages in the dams in the district have increased rapidly in the past two days.

In this backdrop, water is being released from the Khadakwasla Dam. Water levels in the Panshet, Varasgaon, Temghar and Khadakwasla dams have gone up considerably.

A video clip of the water discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha river has surfaced. It shows a dog getting washed away as the discharge begins from the reservoir. It was predicted that the canine might have reached the bank of the river after the current slowed down downstream.

The Khadakwasla Dam, which supplied water to Pune, is filled up to 88.53 pc till 5 pm on Tuesday. In the Khadakwasla chain of dams, around 1.5 TMC water was added in the 24 hours ending on Tuesday evening. The four reservoirs in the system were filling steadily due to heavy rains in the Mutha-Panshet basin and in the Ghat section on the border of Raigad district.

The current storage in the four dams of the Khadakwasla system is as follows: Varasgaon – 50.66 pc, Temghar – 44.41 pc, Panshet – 64.64 pc and Khadakwasla – 88.63 pc.

Cloudburst in Lonavala

A cloudburst-like situation was reported in Lonavala on Wednesday. Low-lying areas were inundated. Roads wore a look of nullahs due to flooding. Local residents found it difficult to navigate through the knee-deep water at the hill station. The highest rainfall of 275 mm of this season was recorded in the past 24 hours in Lonavala.

Rains continued in Pune

Incessant rains started in Pune on Monday evening. Normal life was thrown out of gear to certain extent in the city and suburbs. Heavy rainfall was reported in the central parts. The rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours: Shivajinagar: 15.5 mm, Chinchwad: 39 mm.

It rained continuously for 24 hours for the first time after the onset of monsoon this year.

Lavasa: 134 mm, Nimgiri: 58 mm, Chinchwad: 39.5 mm, Malin: 34.5 mm, Khed: 25.5 mm, Talegaon: 23 mm, NDA: 21 mm, Rajgurunagar: 17 mm, Vadgaon Sheri: 14 mm, Dapodi: 13.5 mm, Pashan: 12.2 mm, Talegaon Dhamdhere: 7 mm and Hadapsar: 6.5 mm.
