Pune: Drunk Tempo Driver Kills Woman, Injures Several in Karve Nagar Road Accident (Video)

Pune: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night around 9:30 p.m. on Karve Road between Karishma Chowk and Paud Phata, when a tempo driver, under the influence of alcohol, hit multiple vehicles, leading to the death of a woman and injuries to others. The deceased woman has been identified as Gitanjali Shrikant Amrale (35), a resident of Shastri Nagar.
The tempo driver, Ashish Anant Pawar (26) from Warje, has been arrested by the Alankar police after the incident.
According to police, the tempo was speeding from Karishma Chowk towards Paud Phata when it first collided with a vehicle near Karishma Chowk. Despite the Bal Tarun Mandal’s Aarti procession taking place nearby, Pawar recklessly drove past the crowd, hitting a rickshaw, a four-wheeler i 10 car, and several two-wheelers at a signal, injuring multiple bikers.
The most devastating impact occurred at Paud Phata Chowk, where Shrikant Amrale, a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activist, was turning his car with his wife, Gitanjali. The speeding tempo crashed into their vehicle, severely injuring Gitanjali. Local workers from Erandwane Mitra Mandal and Bal Tarun Mandal rushed to the scene and took the injured to the hospital, but Gitanjali succumbed to her injuries before receiving treatment.
Shrikant Amrale, who was accompanying his wife to collect materials for the Gauri festival after the Mandal’s Aarti, has suffered major injuries in the accident. The Alankar police have launched an investigation into the case.
