Pune: Election Commission Approves 12 Alternate IDs for Voting; Mobile Phones Banned at Polling Booths

The election for all assembly constituencies in the state is going to take place on Wednesday, November 20. On the background of this, the Collector and District Election Officer of Pune, Dr. Suhas Diwase, has informed that the Election Commission of India has accepted 12 other proofs as proof of identity if the voter’s photo ID card is not available with the individual, and the concerned individual can vote after showing any one of those identity proofs. He also said that there is a ban on carrying mobile phones in the polling station.
There are a total of 21 assembly constituencies in the Pune district in which voting for the assembly general election will take place on November 20. In this background, the District Collector, Dr. Diwase, has given this information. At this time, he appealed to voters who have a photo voter ID card to submit it at the polling station to verify their identity.
For the coming election, any one of the following 12 proofs specified by the Election Commission of India will be accepted for identification of voters who cannot have a photo ID.
These include Aadhaar Card, Job Card issued under MGNREGA, Passbook with photograph issued by Bank or Post Office, Health Insurance Smart Card issued under Ministry of Labour Scheme, Driving Licence, Permanent Account Number (PAN Card), Smart Card issued by Registrar General of India (RGI) under National Population Register, Indian Passport, Pension documents with photograph, Service Identity Card with photograph issued to employees by Central or State Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Public Limited Companies, The official identity cards issued to members of the Legislative Council, Legislative Assembly, Parliament, and special identity cards issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Government of India to persons with disabilities.
Voters should carry the voter information slip and voter photo ID card or any one of the above 12 proofs while going to the polling station.
Violation of privacy by filming and recording voting is an electoral offence. In this regard, it is prohibited to carry mobile phones in the polling station. To avoid any unwanted incident in the polling station and to maintain the confidentiality of voting, it has been instructed to voters not to take their mobile phones to the polling station during the voting.
Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Diwase has appealed that the instructions of the polling officer should be strictly followed at the polling station.
