Pune-Ernakulam Superfast Express Cancelled for Two Months; Commuters from Western Maharashtra to Face Major Inconvenience

Pune :
In a significant inconvenience to railway passengers, the Pune-Ernakulam Superfast Express has been cancelled for two months due to ongoing work at the railway station and along key routes. This cancellation will disrupt the Pune-Sangli train service from January 18 to April 12.
The Pune-Ernakulam Superfast Express will now be rerouted via Panvel and Madgaon for two months. The Southwestern Railway authorities cited safety concerns arising from ongoing work between the Castlerock and Kulem railway stations as the primary reason for this disruption. The administration emphasised the necessity of these measures to ensure passenger safety.
The Miraj Railway Action Committee has issued a circular regarding it, informing commuters of the changes. According to the notice, the train service via Pune-Sangli will remain close from January 18 to April 12. In addition, the Ernakulam Superfast Express between Belgaum and Pune will be cancelled from January 20 to April 14, and the Pune-Nagpur train service will also be unavailable during this period.
This development has sparked frustration among passengers from regions like Satara, Sangli, Miraj, and Kolhapur, who heavily rely on these services to travel to Kerala. With the train route now redirected through Panvel and Madgaon, many will face longer journeys and higher costs. The administration has advised affected travellers to consider alternate routes or modes of transport while travelling to south during this period.
