Pune: Family Feud Turns Violent in Kendur as Man Dragged 500 Meters on Car Bonnet in Land Dispute
Pune: In a shocking family altercation over land space, a man in Shikrapur was allegedly hit by his cousin’s car and dragged nearly 500 meters while clinging to the vehicle’s bonnet. The incident arose from a dispute between cousins residing on adjacent plots.
In this case, Rajendra Nathu Thite (age 46, a resident of Shikrapur) has filed a complaint at Shikrapur police station. Accordingly, the police have registered a case against Vinayak Sadashiv Thite, Vaishali Vinayak Thite, Ganesh Sadashiv Thite, Sarika Ganesh Thite, Amit Sadashiv Thite, Komal Amit Thite, Sadashiv Budhaji Thite, Madhura Ganesh Thite, and Atharva Vinayak Thite (all residents of Thite Ali, Kendur). The incident took place in Kendur on Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.
According to police, the dispute stems from ancestral land in Kendur that was divided among family members. Rajendra Shite, who had been allotted an old family house on the property, demolished it around nine months ago and began construction on a new house. He installed an electric meter on a nearby tree. However, tensions flared when Vinayak Thite, Rajendra’s cousin, erected metal sheets around the electric meter, blocking it from view.
On November 1, Rajendra, accompanied by his family, visited the property to inspect his house’s construction. When he attempted to reposition the meter hanged on a nearby tree, Vinayak and his family allegedly confronted him, claiming the land as theirs. The encounter turned violent, with Rajendra and his family—including his wife Anita and son Akash—allegedly assaulted by Vinayak and others. Rajendra’s daughter, Pratima, captured the scene on her mobile phone, prompting Vinayak to seize the device. Stones were reportedly thrown at the family during the altercation.
The dispute escalated when Vinayak, driving a Maruti Ertiga, allegedly struck Rajendra, causing serious injuries, including fractures to his ribs, stomach, and right ankle. Rajendra reportedly fell onto the car’s bonnet, but Vinayak continued driving, dragging him around 300 to 500 meters before stopping.
Rajendra was then rushed to Sai Accident Hospital in Shikrapur, where he is undergoing treatment for severe injuries. Police have filed a complaint, and Constable Malekar is further investigating the incident.
