Pune: Five killed, 21 injured in bus accident in Tamhini Ghat
Pune: Five people, including three women, were killed and 27 others were injured when a private bus headed towards Mahad from Lohegaon met with an accident in Tamhini Ghat at around 9.45 am on Friday.
The bus was carrying a marriage party. The injured were admitted to a local hospital in Mangaon.
The deceased have been identified as Sangeeta Dhananjay Jadhav, Gaurav Ashok Darade, Shilpa Pradip Pawar, Vandana Jadhav. One deceased person could not be identified.
PI Nivrutti Borhade attached to the Mangaon Police Station said, “The private bus (MH14GU3405) was travelling from Pune to Mahad for a wedding ceremony. The driver lost control while negotiating a curve in the Ghat, the bus hit the railing and rolled down a certain distance and turned turtle. The five deceased got trapped under the bus. Commuters reported the matter to the police. A police team, an ambulance and a rescue team rushed to the spot immediately. They admitted the injured to the hospital in Mangaon.
The Jadhav family from Lohegaon were going to Birwadi in Mahad for the wedding. However, the bus met with an accident in Tamhini Ghat, said Raigad SP Somnath Gharge.
