Pune: With the tourist season at Sinhagad Fort set to begin in June, the Forest Department has announced a new set of rules for visitors. Starting June 1, a plastic ban will be strictly enforced on the fort. The Pune district administration has taken this step to curb encroachments and preserve the fort’s natural beauty.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi had recently directed officials to implement a plastic ban at Sinhagad during a review meeting. Acting on this, the Forest Department has made it mandatory for tourists to pay a refundable deposit for plastic bottles carried to the fort.

Strict penalties will be imposed on those who violate the new rules. As part of the preparation, Assistant Forest Conservator Deepak Pawar held a meeting on Sunday with vendors operating on the fort. They have been given a one-week deadline to fully comply and adjust to the upcoming ban.

Visitors are advised to plan accordingly, as even a small mistake could lead to fines once the rules come into effect. This move aims to promote responsible tourism and protect Sinhagad’s environment for future generations.
