Accused borrows loan taken on a flat by partner, kills him
Pune: They were partners in land deals. The accused borrowed a loan taken on a flat by the partner. Instead of returning the money to the partner, the main accused executed his murder plan.
The arrested have been identified as Jivan alias Bala Shailesh Jagtap (27), a resident of Dattawadi, Akshay alias Babu Balaji Shelar (24), a resident of Bhor, Sahel alias Fukya Sajidali Jora (19), a resident of Bhor and Devidas alias Deva Laxman Tambat (20), a resident of Bhor. The main accused Bhausaheb Sadshiv Kiwale, a resident of Dhayari Phata, is absconding.
The victim has been identified as Satish Sudam Thopte (37), Kolhewadi. Anita Satish Thopte lodged a complaint at the Haveli Police Station in this regard.
According to the police, Satish Thopte and Bhausaheb Sadshiv Kiwale are partners in a real estate firm. Satish Thopte took a loan of Rs 18,50,000 on a flat and gave it to Bhausaheb Kiwale. It was decided that Kiwale would repay the loan. But since Kiwale did not honour his commitment, Thopte demanded his money back. Thopte put a status on his WhatsApp account that Kiwale has not repaid the loan and he has no capacity to repay it. This enraged Kiwale, who sent his accomplices to kill Thopte in front of the latter’s house on November 27 afternoon.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Deshmukh instructed the LCB to detect the murder case as it took place in broad daylight in a residential area. The LCB formed two investigation teams and launched parallel probes. CCTV footage from the spot was examined, which showed the four accused hacking Thopte to death with koyta (sickles).
Police contacted local reporters for help to identify the accused. They told the police that one of the accused Deva Tambat was a history-sheeter. The LCB team learnt that the four accused were at Khed Shivapur and were ready to escape to Kolhapur. The LCB team acted quickly and nabbed them.
Primary investigation revealed their involvement in the crime. They were handed over to the Haveli Police Station for further inquiry. Deva Tambat was earlier booked in an attempted murder case. Search was on for the main accused, Bhausaheb Kiwale.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of SP Pankaj Deshmukh, Addl SP Ramesh Chopade and SDPO Sunilkumar Pujari. The LCB team comprised PI Avinash Shilimkar, Haveli PI Sachin Wangde, Abhijit Sawant, police personnel Hanumant Pasalkar, Ramdas Babar, Raju Momin, Mangesh Thigale, Amol Shedge, Mangesh Bhagat, Vaibhav Sawant, Kashinath Rajapure, Haveli PS API Sagar Pawar, PSI Sanjay Sutnase, police personnel Vikas Pradhan, Raju Mundhe, Santosh Todkar and Mahendra Chowdhari.
