Pune: Good traffic management by Traffic Police at Katraj Chowk
Pune: Katraj Chowk on Wednesday (December 4) remained traffic congestion-free due to good traffic management by the Traffic Police. A flyover is being built at the chowk. Traffic was diverted through other adjoining routes. Traffic police personnel were deployed at 52 spots.
Traffic diversion has been implemented at Katraj Chowk to facilitate the segmental launching work of the flyover. On the first day of traffic diversion on Tuesday, the Traffic Police had tough time managing traffic. However, on Wednesday, they had a firm control over the situation. Police personnel were deployed on alternative routes, from where traffic was diverted ahead of Katraj Chowk. This ensured a smooth flow of daily traffic through the chowk. Traffic was diverted in a circular manner by switching off traffic signals to avoid traffic jams caused by heavy vehicles.
Though commuters had trouble taking detours, they did not face heavy snarls. Alternative routes have been allotted to heavy vehicles and they have been banned to enter Katraj Chowk. In order to stop them away from Katraj Chowk, barricades have been installed at Mantarwadi, Handewadi, Navale Bridge, Dari Pul, Iskcon Mandir, Gujarwadi Phata, Bopdev Ghat, Khadi Machine Chowk, Vegetable Market Bus Stop and Katraj Ghat. Traffic police personnel were deployed at these places and heavy vehicles were diverted through alternative routes.
Heavy goods transport vehicles
On Tuesday, heavy vehicles were halted on the road side in the lanes coming from and going towards Mumbai. Therefore, their queues could be seen at Undri, Pisoli and Navale Bridge. Many heavy vehicles were carrying perishable goods, which were later allowed to go one by one, said the Traffic Police.
