Pune: Gutkha Worth ₹20.70 Lakh Seized From Warehouse in Yerwada; Consignment Arrived From Karnataka
Pune: Despite the ban on production and sale of gutkha in Maharashtra, illegal smuggling continues unabated. Gutkha is manufactured in neighbouring states and then trafficked into Maharashtra. Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Squad raided a warehouse in Naiknagar, Yerwada, and seized gutkha worth ₹20,70,500, reportedly brought from Karnataka.
A case has been registered against Jamanaram alias Ganesh Balram Jat (25).
The action was carried out based on inputs received by Police Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad and his team, who raided the warehouse located behind Ved Provision Stores in Naiknagar.
According to the investigation, Jat had rented the warehouse and stored the gutkha there. The consignment was supplied from Karnataka by Monty and Pinkya Turekar. Police are currently searching for both accused, and the Yerwada Police Station has initiated the process of registering offences against them.
