Pune: In the midst of persistent rainfall in the Pune district, the compound wall of the ‘Popular Heights-2’ residential building in Koregaon Park collapsed at approximately 1 a.m. on Saturday night. However, after this, backside parts of the building also started withering away. There is a big aperture on the back side of the building.

Meanwhile, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued notices to residents of this building regarding the evacuation of the building. Therefore, around 300 to 400 people from 60 flats in the buildings will be relocated somewhere else.

In this situation, the residents of the society blame the river beautification project for the flood-like situation in Pune. Residents demand to construct the building of their society or to receive compensation from the PMC.

The meteorological department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Pune city for today. As the compound wall of the residential building has collapsed in Koregaon Park, the administration is expressing its fear of the building collapsing amidst the continuous rainfall in the city.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Sangeeta Tiwari requested the administration to take necessary precautions on time. Considering the possible danger, Pune Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to the residents of the area to vacate their houses. However, the local citizens have expressed their anger over the river beautification project and blamed it for endangering their lives.

On this issue, the PMC has issued notices to residents in which the PMC stated that this building is dangerous and may collapse anytime, which can lead to financial and humanitarian loss. Therefore, the residents should vacate the place in their possession until the danger is over; otherwise, the PMC will exercise its rights under Section 268(7) of the Municipal Corporation Act, and if necessary, the PMC will vacate the place with the help of the police. Further in the notice, PMC urged cooperation from the people.
