Kolhapur’s Shubham Shidnale and Apeksha Patil and Haveli’s Suraj Chorghe emerge winners
Pune: Kolhapur-based wrestler Shubham Shidnale in the open men’s category, Haveli’s Suraj Chorghe in the junior category while Kolhapur’s Apeksha Patil in the open women’s category won in the Hindu Garjana Chashak State-level Women’s and Men’s Wrestling Competitions, which were jointly organised by the Hindu Garjana Pratishthan and Punit Balan Group (PBG). The winners lifted the prestigious silver mace in their respective categories.
The contests were played at the Late Dhananjay Ramchandra Ghate Kridanagari at the SP College ground on Tilak Road. Shubham Shidnale defeated the erstwhile Maharashtra Kesari Sikandar Sheikh by 6-2 in the semi-final and took on Mulshi’s Tanaji Zunzurge in the final.
Since the winner was to be decided in the final bout, it had to be played till a clear result emerged. The two wrestlers played for 52 minutes. The clash turned out to be very interesting and spectators enjoyed every second of it. Later, the umpires decided to have a six-minute bout to decide the winner on the basis of points they scored.
Following a tiring hour-long bout, robust-bodied Shubham Shidnale easily defeated Tanaji Zunzurge by 10-01 and became the winner.
In under-17 open junior category, Haveli’s Suraj Chorghe defeated his teammate and co-wrestler from the same wrestling school (Talim) Rohit Dighe by 13-02.
In open women’s category, Kolhapur’s Apeksha Patil defeated Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Pragati Gaikwad by 3-2.
Prizes were distributed by Minister of State for Urban Development, Transport, Social Justice, Medical Education, Minority Development and Aukaf MLA Madhuri Satish Misal, MLA Yogesh Tilekar, Film Actor Ankush Choudhary, Manikchand Oxyrich Managing Director Janhavi Dhariwal-Balan, Competition Organisers PBG President Punit Balan and Hindu Garjana Pratishthan President Dheeraj Ghate. Commissioner of Police Shri Amitesh Kumar, Kasba Peth MLA Hemant Rasane, Hindu Garjana Pratishthan’s all office-bearers and other dignitaries were present.
The winner in the open men’s category, Shubham Shidnale, was given the silver mace, Rs 2.51 lakh, Mahindra Thar SUV and a memento. The first runner-up, Tanaji Zunzurge, got Rs 1.51 lakh and a memento while the second runner-up, Solapur’s Pramod Sul, was given Rs 1.51 lakh.
The open women’s category winner, Kolhapur’s Apeksha Patil, got Rs 2.51 lakh, an e-bike and the silver mace. The first runner-up, Pragati Gaikwad, and the second runner-up, Vedika Sasne, were given Rs 1.51 lakh each.
The winner in the junior category, Suraj Chorge, got the silver mace and Rs 1 lakh. Moreover, winners in the under 17 and under 14 categories were given bicycles and Rs 25,000 cash awards.
