Pune: I will follow up Rajgurunagar case till culprit gets death sentence: Rupali Chakankar
Pune: A waiter working in a bar in Rajgurunagar sexually abused a nine-year-old girl. He later killed her and her eight-year-old sister by drowning them in a water barrel. The incident came to light on Thursday morning.
It sent shockwaves across the taluka and the district. The accused has been identified as Ajay Das (54), a resident of West Bengal. He has been arrested.
State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar held a meeting with Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh and discussed the incident with the police.
Later, she addressed the media and promised that she would follow up the matter and ensure that the culprit gets death sentence.
Chakankar said, “The incident in Rajgurunagar is unfortunate. The case will be heard in a fast-track court. The accused was taking advantage of his acquaintance with the girls. He killed them. SP Pankaj Deshmukh and his team are investigating the case properly. The girls’ bodies were found at 11.45 pm on Thursday.
“They nabbed the culprit within four hours. He has been booked. I will follow up the case and ensure that the culprit is hanged to death.”
Give details of people from other states to the police
Chakankar said, “Details of people coming from other states or countries and staying in your neighbourhood should be reported to the police immediately. Anyone in housing societies, in towns or villages coming from outside should be reported to the police. People close to victims are mostly culprits. The State Women’s Commission will follow up the case. We followed up a similar case from a Kolhapur village and ensured that the accused got death sentence.”
