Pune: Junior engineer, brother issue death threat with revolver to BJP worker over Rs 10-cr civic contract

Pune: The Khadak Police have booked a junior engineer from the Drainage Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and his brother for issuing a death threat to a BJP worker in Ganj Peth over a Rs 10-crore departmental contract.

A case was registered against junior engineer Ganesh Rajendra Gite (37) and his brother Mahesh (35), both residents of Bhavani Peth. BJP worker Nirmal Motilal Harihar (36), a resident of Ganj Peth, lodged a complaint at the Khadak Police Station.

According to the police, BJP worker Nirmal Harihar is a contractor in the PMC. He was leaving for the BJP state-level convention organised in Balewadi on Sunday (July 21) afternoon. He was at the Mangal Mitra Club when Ganesh and Mahesh, who are acquainted with him, came there. Ganesh pointed a revolver at Harihar’s stomach. He also abused Harihar over his caste. Gite threatened to kill him and said: ‘Are you bidding for the Rs 10-crore tender? Do you deserve it?’

DCP Sandeep Singh Gill, ACP Machchindra Khade, Sr PI Vishwajit Kaingade, PI Santosh Khetmalas rushed to the spot after getting an alert. ACP Khade is investigating the matter.
