In a decisive crackdown on street crime, the Khadak police have successfully apprehended a gang notorious for snatching mobile phones from unsuspecting passersby across Pune. The police have arrested three young men and uncovered their involvement in 12 separate cases of mobile theft.

The accused, identified as Govind Subhash Suryawanshi (18, resident of Iman Nagar, Kondhwa), Ajay Manik Rasal (25, from Ambedkar Nagar, Kondhwa), and Rahul Mahadev Gejge (18, of Patil Vasti, Yevlewadi, Kondhwa), allegedly targeted individuals on busy roads and fleeing quickly.

With mobile theft cases on the rise in Pune, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar had recently ordered citywide operations to tackle this issue head-on. In response, police units across Pune intensified their patrols and investigative efforts. During a routine patrol, Khadak police officers, including Police Ammaldar Bhosale and Kharade, received a tip-off from a reliable informant. The informant indicated that the mobile-snatching suspects were spotted at Sushil Lodge near Sathe Colony.

Acting swiftly, the Khadak police team rushed to the location, detaining the trio for questioning. Initially, the accused attempted to mislead officers with evasive answers, but as questioning intensified, they eventually confessed to a two-month spree of mobile thefts throughout the area.

Police subsequently recovered 12 stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 1.64 lakh from the suspects, unravelling nine more cases connected to these thefts.
