Pune: The Railway Board last year approved construction of the Khadki Terminal to reduce burden on the Pune Railway Station. The work has begun and is likely to be completed by December 2025. Passengers will get relief after its completion.
The Pune Railway Division is an important part of Central Railway (CR). Over 1.5 lakh passengers travel from the Pune Railway Station. As many as 200 trains operate via or from this station. The number is likely to increase in the future.
The Railway Administration sent a proposal to the Railway Board to develop two more terminals at Khadki and Hadapsar to lessen the strain on the Pune Railway Station. The Hadapsar Terminal was approved and work on it began earlier. An express train has already started operating from there. A passenger terminal is being developed at Hadapsar. The tender process has been completed and construction has begun. The Khadki Terminal will be built by December this year, said railway officials.
Hemant Kumar Behra, PRO, Pune Railway Division, said, “The terminal work is underway at Khadki. It has been planned to build the terminal till December 2025.”
Rs 37 crore allocated
The Railway Board approved the proposal to build a terminal at Khadki in March 2024. The Board approved Rs 37 crore for the project. A new platform and two stabling lines will be developed. Various facilities will also be set up for passengers. Trains bound for Mumbai are likely to run from the Khadki Terminal. Some local trains will also start operating from here. This will help reduce the load on the Pune Railway Station.
