Pune: In a significant achievement, the Deccan Police successfully traced and returned 26 lost mobile phones to their rightful owners. The recovered devices, worth around ₹4.5 lakh, had gone missing from crowded areas in the city.

The complaints regarding the missing and stolen mobile phones were registered on the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system launched by the Central Government’s Department of Telecommunications. Based on these complaints, the Deccan Police initiated a technical investigation, which revealed that the phones were being used across different districts and states.

Police contacted those using the lost devices and instructed them to deposit the phones at the Deccan Police Station, warning of legal action for non-compliance. Once all 26 mobile phones were surrendered, they were handed back to the complainants in a program organized at the police station.

This successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Ravale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sainath Thombre, with the efforts of Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar, Inspector (Crime) Prasad Raut, police staff Uma Palwe, and the dedicated team.

Police have urged citizens to promptly register complaints of lost phones on the Pune Police website (punepolice.gov.in/lostFoundReg) and submit a copy at the nearest police station. Additionally, they advised that after activating a new SIM card, details must be updated on the official CEIR portal (www.ceir.gov.in
).
