Pune: Man Arrested for Strangling Brother’s Wife Following Domestic Dispute
Pune: A tragic incident unfolded in Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, where a woman was allegedly strangled to death by her brother-in-law due to a domestic dispute. The victim, identified as Kavita Nagraj Gadadar, 24, was found dead on August 14, leading to an investigation by the Mundhwa Police.
Initially, Kavita’s death was registered as an accidental death. However, the post-mortem report revealed that she had died from strangulation, prompting further inquiry. The police arrested Mallikarjun Sharanappa Gadadar, Kavita’s brother-in-law, based on a complaint filed by Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Siddheshwar Mali.
According to Senior Police Inspector Balasaheb Nikam, at the time of the incident, Kavita’s husband was away in his village, leaving her alone at home with Mallikarjun and her two children. On the day of the incident, Mallikarjun reportedly sent Kavita’s young daughter outside to play and then strangled Kavita to death over the issue of domestic disputes between them.
The investigation revealed that Mallikarjun, who is allegedly addicted to alcohol, had been frequently arguing with Kavita over money to fund his drinking habit. It was during one of these heated arguments, fuelled by Kavita’s refusal to give him money, that Mallikarjun strangulated her.
After Kavita’s death, the family had travelled to Karnataka for her last rites, but they were called back by the police following the post-mortem results. Notably, police uncovered this case after a seven-year-old little daughter of Kavita gave information about the incident to the police. Accordingly, police then took Mallikarjun into custody, and the investigation is ongoing in the case.
