Pune: In the age of digital payments, individuals have been discovering new ways of cheating and financial embezzlement. One such incident took place in Alichi’s Irani Chai & Maska In Undri-Kondhwa, where the manager of the hotel defrauded the owner of approximately 3 lakh rupees by replacing his owner’s QR code with his at the payment place.

The name of the manager is Monu Samuel (34), and he lives in Aster Myrah society in Pisoli. In this regard, the owner of Alichi’s restaurant, Ahmad Mohammad Ali Alichi (48), has filed a police complaint at Kondhwa police station.

As per the complaint, the accused manager has swindled his owner to approximately Rs 3 lakh between December 2023 and June 2024. The complaint stated that Ahmad Alichi has a restaurant in Undri. In this restaurant, the accused, Monu Samuel, was working as a manager.

Last year, Ahmad Alichi went to Dubai for some work. At that time, his brother was looking after his business. As his brother had an eye operation, he was not able to come to the restaurant for a few days. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Manager Monu Samuel removed his owner’s QR code from the payment’s place and kept the QR code of his bank there.

He was asking people to make payments with his QR code, pilfering money that rightfully should have gone to his owner’s account. Meanwhile, the accused started asking for extra money from his owner, stating that business was not going that well. When the owner checked the CCTV, he found sufficient customers in the hotel. This is where the owner got suspicious of Monu’s trick.

He started inquiring about this issue. When he asked some of his regular customers about it, they told him that meanwhile, when they were making the payment, Monu’s UPI ID was appearing in the app instead of Alichi after scanning the QR code. Customers also showed him the payment history. After this, the owner filed a complaint against Monu Samuel at Kondhwa Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
