Pune:

Frustrating to daily harassment from her husband and in-laws for having two daughters and continuous demand of money from her father for the construction of the house, the married woman from Mulshi ended her life by hanging herself in the house. The woman who committed suicide has been identified as Anjali Govardhan Jadhav (age 24, a resident of Bodkewadi, Maan, Taluka Mulshi).

In this regard, the father of the deceased woman, Devidas Kashiram Rathod (age 46, a resident of Manora, district Washim), has filed a complaint at Hinjewadi police station. According to this, the police have registered a complaint against the husband of the deceased woman, Govardhan Gopichand Jadhav (age 30), father-in-law Gopichand Jadhav (age 55), mother-in-law Kavita Jadhav (age 47), brother-in-law Gorakhnath Jadhav, and sister-in-law Archana Rathod (all residents of Bodkewadi, Maan, Taluka Mulshi).

As per the police information, the plaintiff’s daughter Anjali was married to Govardhan Jadhav in 2019 as per tradition of the Banjara community. As Anjali has two daughters, her in-laws started torturing her.

The plaintiff complained that his son-in-law is addicted to drinking alcohol, and he often used to torture his daughter Anjali after drinking alcohol. In July 2024, the son-in-law asked Anjali for money for the construction of the house in the village.

At that time, plaintiff had mortgaged her jewellery and gave 45 thousand rupees and further 30 thousand rupees in cash to his son-in-law, Govardhan. However, after that, Govardhan again started forcing his wife Anjali to ask for more money from her father. Knowing that her father could not give more money and frustrated by daily harassment, Anjali committed suicide by hanging herself at home on September 17.

After performing her last rituals, now her father has filed a complaint at Hinjewadi police station, and police sub-inspector Dnyaneshwar Jhol is investigating further in the case.
