Pune Municipal Corporation’s Building Development Department exceeds revenue target for fourth consecutive year, collects Rs 2,601 crore in outgoing financial year

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Building Development Department collected Rs 190 crore more than the expected revenue for the fourth consecutive year and earned Rs 2,601 crore in FY 2024-25. The department estimated an earning of Rs 2,492 crore in 2024-25.

The PMC’s main sources of income are property tax, building permission charges and GST returns from the State Government. The PMC estimated the Building Development Department to collect Rs 2,412 crore in 2024-25. However, the department generated a revenue of Rs 2,601.88 crore on March 31, 2025. The revenue is Rs 190 crore more than the set target.

In 2023-24, the estimated income from the department was Rs 1,604.84 crore but it earned Rs 2,407 crore. In 2022-23, the target was Rs 1,400 crore and the actual revenue was Rs 1,635 crore. In 2021-22, the expected collection was Rs 1,185 crore but the department earned Rs 2,095 crore.

The Building Development Department approved 3,351 constructions in FY 2024-25 and earned a revenue of Rs 2,601.88 crore.

City engineer, PMC, Prashant Waghmare said, “People from across the country and the world have been settling in Pune as it has a good network of educational institutions, good job opportunities due to the presence of leading MNCs from various fields, including the IT sector, pleasant weather and good standards of living. This has boosted construction in and around the city. The process of granting approval to new constructions has become easier and faster due to new software installed in the department. As a result, the number of constructions and revenue has grown.”
