Pune: NCP’s Deepak Mankar Resigns as City President; What Did He Say in His Resignation Letter?

Pune : Deepak Mankar, Pune City President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), has submitted his resignation from the post. He sent his resignation to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and State President Sunil Tatkare, requesting them to accept it. Mankar is facing charges of submitting forged documents in a land fraud case registered at Samarth Police Station. Citing personal and party defamation due to the case, he has stepped down from his position.
Allegations Against the Opposition
Mankar claimed in his resignation letter that the opposition is attempting to tarnish his political image ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. He alleged a conspiracy to defame him.
What Did Mankar Say in the Resignation Letter?
“Considering my rising political stature, some miscreants are trying to defame me. A few years ago, I was involved in a land transaction, and now, suddenly, a case has been filed against me alleging fraud. However, the charges have not been proven. This is clearly an attempt to damage my political career and influence the upcoming municipal elections.”
“The land deal in question involved my personal property, and there has been no wrongdoing or fraud from my side. Still, the issue has caused unnecessary damage to the image of the party and myself, leading to difficulties for party leaders.”
“Dear Dada (Ajit Pawar) and Hon. President Sunil Tatkare, under your guidance I have sincerely worked to strengthen the NCP in Pune. Given the current circumstances, I humbly request that my resignation from the position of Pune City President be accepted.”
What Is the Case?
Former NCP Minority Department State Vice President Shantanu Kukde was arrested in a rape case. During the investigation, it was revealed that he and Mankar were involved in a financial transaction worth ₹1 crore. When police summoned Mankar for questioning, he denied the transaction and submitted certain documents which were later found to be forged. As a result, Mankar was charged with cheating and using fake documents.
Amidst these developments, Mankar has chosen to resign in the interest of the party’s image. Whether or not his resignation is accepted remains to be seen.
