Pune: Nobody provoked to beat me up: Complainant in Kothrud beating-up case personally files affidavit in court

Pune: The case, in which Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol’s worker Devendra Jog was beaten up, took a new turn on Monday (March 3). The police invoked attempt to murder section alleging that Gaja Marne and Rupesh Marne provoked others to beat Jog up. Moreover, the MCOCA was also invoked.
Meanwhile, complainant Devendra Jog filed an affidavit stating that the incident took place in the spur of the moment and nobody provoked the accused to beat him up. Therefore, the court sent Gaja Marne to judicial custody. Earlier, the three arrested accused were sent to police custody till March 6.
Jog’s affidavit stated that he was beaten up by 3-4 persons. Nobody provoked before, during and after the incident. Moreover, nobody else was present at the incident spot. It happened in the spur of the moment and nobody provoked them. He stated, “Therefore, I lodged the complaint against four persons. I was not roughed up and nobody provoked it in my presence.”
This has given a completely new twist to the case. The attempt to murder and MCOCA charges hang fire now.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch produced Gaja Marne in the court. Giving details about the investigation till date, they told the court that CCTV footage of the incident spot and surrounding area was seized with the help of experts. The identity parade of the accused was conducted. Two two-wheelers and two luxury cars were impounded. An inquiry of the witnesses was done. The three accused were produced before the court after gaining the MCOCA Court’s production warrant.
The police demanded 10-day police custody of the four accused. The three accused and Gaja Marne needed to be confronted and the case needed to be investigated under the MCOCA. The accused were history-sheeters. More vehicles were to be impounded. Technical analysis of the mobile phones of the accused was underway and it was to be probed whether more people were involved in the incident on the basis of details that emerged during the investigation.
The police said that the accused work in a criminal syndicate, which committed offenses such as murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery, etc. They have amassed illegal wealth. A thorough investigation had to be conducted. The accused have terrorised people. Therefore, witnesses and the complainant were under tremendous pressure during the investigation.
Adv Vijaysinh Thombre argued on behalf of the accused. He said that the police framed Gaja Marne going by the affidavit of the complainant. The three accused were sent to police custody till March 6. Gaja Marne was sent to judicial custody. Therefore, though the police got police custody of the three accused, they could not confront the three with Marne.
