Pune: PMC to Transfer All Long-Serving Property Tax Inspectors Amid Concerns Over Financial Irregularities for Postings

Pune: The senior officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have decided to transfer the departmental inspectors who have completed three years in the property tax department of the corporation and to appoint new inspectors in their places who have not worked in this department before.

Meanwhile, a senior officer of the PMC informed that the seniors have reached this decision of transfer of officials amidst a strong discussion about financial transactions for transfers of these inspectors in this coveted department.

Currently, various departments of the Pune Municipal Corporation have started transferring its officials to another department. As per rules, officers and employees who have worked in one department for three years are transferred to another department. Generally, such officers and employees are transferred to equivalent positions in the other department where they have not worked before.

The Property Tax Department, which is the major source of revenue for the Municipal Corporation, has initiated the transfer process of tax inspectors and departmental inspectors who have been working with this department for the past three years. However, it is learnt that more than 40 transferred inspectors are yet to be released at their transfer locations.

Further, some people alleged that moves are underway to replace those inspectors who have been released with those who have previously worked in this department. After listening about it, the officers and employees of other departments of the municipal corporation have raised their doubts about the transfer process.

They have put their objection against this order. “One rule to officers and employees of other departments and a different rule to inspectors of the property tax department is unfair,” said one of the officials. A strong discussion is going on in the municipal circle that financial transactions have been made for these appointments and postings in this much sought-after department (property tax department).

This discussion has even reached the senior officials. In this background, the senior officials of the PMC have taken a cautious stance to transfer the employees who have worked in the same department for three years to another department as per the rules. Also, a senior official of the municipal corporation informed that these officials have also made the decision to cancel the recent transfers of the departmental inspectors in other wards.
