Pune Police Crack Down at Nine Places in a Single Day for Selling Dangerous Nylon Manja in Pune City, Seize Thousands Worth of Illegal Manja

Considering the fatal injuries caused by Nylon Manja to humans and birds alike, the Bombay High Court banned usage of Nylon Manja. Despite that, the sale of this dangerous nylon manja is openly taking place in the marketplaces of Pune city. However, the police have started taking action against such sellers. In a single-day action, the Crime Branch and local police seized thousands of rupees worth of manja from nine places on Saturday.

In the first instance, police have caught Saurabh Santosh Pashte (age 18, a resident of Khadakmal Ali) and Yash Nilesh Petkar (age 20, a resident of Rashtra Bhushan Chowk, Ghorpadi Peth) for selling nylon manja at Gayatri General Stores on Ramnagar Canal Road in Warje Malwadi. The police have seized 45 reels of manja from them.

In another significant action, the police have detained Yogesh Shatrughna Shah (age 20, resident near Nevse Hospital, Vadgaon Budruk) while selling manja based on the information received from Police Officer Amol Patil of Sinhagad Road Police Station. In the subsequent action, police seized 11 reels of nylon manja worth Rs 6,500 from him.

Further, Police Amaldar Vishal Gade and Harish More of the Crime Branch’s Unit 4 team received the news of selling nylon manja. Based on that, police seized four reels of nylon manja worth Rs 3,200 from Deepa Shinde (age 37). Similarly, based on the information received from Police Amaldar Nilesh Sable of the Crime Branch Unit 1, the police have seized nylon manja worth Rs 4,500 from a minor boy from Taljai Plateau.

The Anti-Robbery and Vehicle Theft Squad received information that two people were selling nylon manja on the inner road of Canal Road leading from Mitra Mandal Chowk to Parvati. Accordingly, the police have seized 6 reels of Chinese nylon manja worth Rs 4,800 from Shashank Chandrappa Dhangar (age 19, a resident of Ganesh Mala, Sinhagad Road) and Rohit Ram Shinde (age 34, a resident of Parvati Darshan). Chaturshringi police have seized 11 reels of manja worth Rs 13,200 from Rupesh Nitin Salunkhe, who was selling nylon manja near the bus stop near Aundh Masjid.

Further, nylon manja was being sold at Sai Chowk on Pashan–Sus Road in Pashan. Baner police have seized 3 reels of nylon manja worth Rs 4,500 from Vivek Suresh Solanki (age 19, a resident of Krishna Vihar Society, Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa). Similarly, a minor boy was found selling nylon manja at Bhagva Chowk in Katraj.
