Pune Police Enforce Traffic Diversions in Lashkar Area for Christmas Celebrations
Pune:
With just a day left for Christmas festivities, Pune police have enforced special traffic arrangements in the Lashkar area to manage the anticipated crowds and prevent unnecessary congestion. These traffic changes will be enforced on Wednesday, December 25, for the Christmas celebrations.
The Lashkar area traditionally sees a significant influx of visitors from across the city and its suburbs during Christmas. In response to the expected rush, the traffic police have announced that if congestion intensifies on Mahatma Gandhi Road, the road will be temporarily closed, and vehicles will be redirected to alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Amol Zende, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, urged commuters to cooperate with the changes and opt for alternate routes during the celebrations.
The revised traffic plan will come into effect at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and remain in place until the situation normalises.
Key diversions include:
- Traffic from Y Junction to Mahatma Gandhi Road will be blocked at 15 August Chowk, with vehicles redirected via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
- Vehicles heading from the ISKCON Temple towards Aurora Towers will be rerouted from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Putla Chowk to Tin Tofa Chowk.
- The route from Volga Chowk to Mohammed Rafi Chowk will also be closed, with vehicles diverted through East Street to Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Further adjustments include the closure of the stretch between Indira Gandhi Chowk and Mahavir Chowk. The traffic department has informed that vehicles from Indira Gandhi Chowk will be rerouted towards Lashkar Police Station. Similarly, traffic from Sharbatwala Chowk to Mahavir Chowk will be diverted via Taboot Street.
