Pune: Prisoner serving life imprisonment escapes from Yerwada Central Prison
Pune: A prison inmate serving life imprisonment in a murder case escaped from the Yerwada Central Prison. He has been identified as Atmaram alias Atmya Ladkya Bhavar (34), a resident of Palghar district. Jail Officer Hemant Dinkar Patil lodged a complaint at the Yerwada Police Station.
Bhavar was sentenced to life imprisonment in the murder case that took place in 2009. It was registered at the Shahapur Police Station. The sentence was awarded on July 10, 2012, along with a fine of Rs 2,000. If he failed to pay the fine, he had to serve a jail term of two more months. He was lodged in the open jail.
Policeman Tausif Sayyad was taking a roll call of inmates on Saturday (July 13) evening when Bhavar was not present in his barrack. He could not be located even after a search on the prison premises. However, details about his escape were not available immediately. The police are investigating further.
