Pune: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed officials to start acquiring land for the Purandar airport, which is important for Pune and suburbs. This has cleared any confusion about the airport and the project will now be expedited.

The progress in construction of airports in the State was reviewed in a meeting in the presence of Fadnavis at the Sahyadri Guest House. Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol and officials were present.

The State Government surveyed 2,016 land parcels at Munjavdi, Pargaon Memane in Purandar and expressed its opinion that the airport can be developed at one of the villages. The Maharashtra Airport Development Authority was appointed as the nodal agency for the project. Later, surveys were conducted from time to time, which found that 2,832 hectares of land would be acquired at seven villages, including Pargaon Memane, Khanavdi, Munjavdi, Ekhatpur, Kumbharvalan, Vanpuri and Udachiwadi. During that period, the Maharashtra Airport Development Authority was appointed.

The Union Defence Minister issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to acquire the said land in 2018. In 2022, the government ordered submission of the proposal on land acquisition prepared by the Airport Development Authority and related documents to the MIDC. A report was presented in December 2024 that Rs 4,285 crore funds were needed to acquire land for the airport.
