Pune: Registration of Cases Against Unruly Drivers; Traffic Police Booked 23 Drivers in Five Days

With increased urbanisation, the traffic problem in the city is getting worse with each passing day. In such a situation, some vehicle drivers park their vehicles on the road, obstructing the traffic. Whereas some vendors openly set up their stalls on the road without caring anything about the traffic problem, which further adds to the traffic congestion. Therefore, the police have decided to take action against such people.
Accordingly, in the last five days, cases have been registered against 23 vehicle drivers and street vendors under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The traffic problem in the city has become serious. This problem is increasing not only in the inner cities but also in the suburbs. In spite of this, various vehicle drivers parked their vehicles on the road, halting the road traffic. Earlier, police were taking jammer action against such vehicles. However, this further leads to traffic as people were rushing to the road.
Therefore, recently, the police have decided to take action against such people who are obstructing the traffic flow.
Some of the actions taken by traffic police in the last five days are as follows:
- Action was taken against a tempo parked in a dangerous manner and in a manner that obstructed traffic on the road in front of the Marriott Hotel in Mundhwa.
- A case has been registered against a rickshaw going in the opposite direction from Badhe Vasti to Mundhwa Chowk.
- Another case has been registered against a person who was driving a two-wheeler recklessly in Keshav Nagar.
- A case has been registered against a jalebi-selling vendor for setting up a stall near PGKM School at the beginning of Kakade Vasti on the road and obstructing traffic.
- A case has been registered for parking a tempo in front of Decoware Furniture in Dhayari in a manner that obstructs traffic.
Under sections 281, 285, and 324(4) of the Indian Penal Code, cases have been registered against unruly drivers and street vendors. The punishment for this act is a fine of Rs 5,000, cancellation of the driving license, and imprisonment depending on the seriousness of the case.
This year, the traffic police have taken action against 9 lakh 5 thousand 846 unruly drivers till November 25. From them, a fine of Rs 24 crore 90 lakh has been recovered by police. Further, about Rs 51 crore 86 lakh is yet to be recovered from these unruly drivers.
