Pune: Revellers can buy liquor till 1 am on the eve of New Year and celebrate till 5 am. The District Collector has allowed restaurants and bars to remain open till 5 am. Therefore, revellers can continue partying throughout the night.

However, liquor sales can continue only up to 1 am.

The State Government has permitted celebrations of Christmas and New Year till 5 am. The District Collector issued the order on its basis. The permission is valid on Wednesday (December 25) and Tuesday (December 31).

Parties are held at various places in the city to celebrate Christmas. The State Excise Department received 50 applications seeking its permission, which has been granted. The department clarified that the permission was only for one day. There are 3,000 liquor shops in the city.

State Excise Department Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput said, “Though the government has issued permission to celebrate, no one should hold parties without permission. They should welcome New Year by adhering to the law. They should not consume liquor, where there is no permission.”
