Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee has granted Rs 9.5 crore funds for acquiring land from Wonder City to Rajas Society as the NHAI has decided to increase the length of the flyover being built at Katraj Chowk.

The Katraj-Kondhwa Road work started in 2017. The project remained incomplete as the civic body could not acquire land for the plan. The PMC did not have fruitful discussions with land owners. This resulted in cost escalations.

Earlier, Rs 750 crore was needed for land acquisition, which has now gone up to Rs 1,100 crore. The State Government has given Rs 139.83 crore for the purpose. The PMC has demanded Rs 425 crore more from the government. The NHAI is building the Katraj flyover.

The NHAI has decided to increase the length of the Katraj-Kondhwa flyover. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, in a video conference, told the PMC that should they acquire land for the road widening work, the NHAI would bear the expenditure of building the flyover.

Therefore, the civic body has started acquiring land for the 50-m road. Valuation has been done for a total land of 2,705 sq m belonging to seven land owners. Compensation will be paid to the land owners after deducting 7 pc stamp duty, registration fees, land measurement charge and 1 pc TDS.
