Pune: The police were trying to reach Manorama Khedkar, the mother of controversial probationary IAS officer Dr Puja Khedkar, who allegedly threatened a farmer at gunpoint but her mobile phone was switched off. A video of the said incident went viral on social media.

In this matter, the police booked five people, including Manorama Khedkar. The police tried to contact her in this connection but her mobile phone was not reachable. This was revealed by police officials to a leading English news daily.

The viral video clip

In the purported video clip, Manorama Khedkar is threatening a farmer. She is holding a pistol and is accompanied by bouncers. It is said that the quarrel started over the ownership of land. The clip was filmed at Dhadwali village in Mulshi taluka. The clip shows that some farmers are trying to tell her that the matter is sub judice. Hence, she cannot take possession of the field. However, Manorama Khedkar insists that she is the owner of the land and they need not tell her anything.”

Sr PI Manoj Yadav said, “A case was not filed immediately after the incident. However, after angry reactions over the video clip, the farmers lodged a complaint at the Paud Police Station. The accused have been identified as Manorama Khedkar, her husband Dilip Khedkar, Ambadas Khedkar and others. The case was registered under sections 323, 504, 506 of the IPC on Friday (July 12) night. Provisions of the Arms Act were also included in the case. It was alleged that Manorama Khedkar threatened them.”

A team of Pune Rural Police visited Manorama Khedkar’s bungalow in the Baner Road area to inquire but she could not be traced, said a police officer. “We visited her home on Sunday and Monday. But we could not enter the premises. Her mobile phone is switched off. We will detain her and take legal action,” said police officials.
