Pune Rural Police Seize Rs 5 Crore from Car at Shivapur Toll Plaza; Investigation Underway
Pune:
In a joint operation with the Income Tax Department and the Election Commission, Pune Rural police seized Rs 5 crore in cash from a private car at the Shivapur toll plaza in Khed on Monday night. The seizure took place during a police blockade.
Pune District Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, confirmed that a private vehicle bearing the registration number MH 45 AS 2526 was detained by the police at the Khed Shivapur toll plaza on Monday night. Upon inspection, police discovered Rs 5 crore in cash inside the car.
After that, the money was then counted and handed over to the Income Tax Department for further verification, with officials confirming that the notes were genuine and of Rs 500.
According to Deshmukh, the individuals in the car claimed they were road construction businessmen and stated that the money belonged to them. However, investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the money and where this money was being taken. Initial findings suggest the car was travelling from Mumbai to Kolhapur.
Further enquiries are being conducted to ascertain whether there is any political link to the cash. It has been discovered that the car is registered to an individual named Amol Nalawade, who claims to have sold the vehicle to Balasaheb Asbe. Further, Nalawade is reportedly connected to Shiv Sena (Shinde group) MLA Shahaji Bapu Patil. Police are conducting further investigation into the case.
