Pune: A main accused in the Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh murder case, Walmik Karad, who the police were searching for many weeks, surrendered at the CID Office, Pune on Tuesday (December 31).

As many as nine CIS squads and over 150 policemen have been searching for the absconding accused. Still, not a single accused could be traced. A couple of days ago, news spread that Walmik Karad surrendered before the police in Pune. But it was a rumour. The opposition alleged that the government did not arrest Karad because of his proximity to State Minister Dhananjay Munde.

Finally, Karad surrendered before the CID on Tuesday. Before surrendering, he released a video clip, in which he alleged that a false case was lodged against him for extortion at the Kej Police Station. I am surrendering at the CID Office. The assailants of Santosh Deshmukh should be arrested. They should be hanged. I am being framed in the case out of political jealousy. If I am found guilty in the police investigation, I will be ready to undergo any punishment given by the court.”
